Prevention is better…
Not all Nigerians with disabilities were born that way. Sometimes the disability has become manifest in the course of time, or has developed considerably. We would `prefer nothing better than prevent disabilities as much as possible!

Prevention and intervention
We want to avert chronic disabilities by prevention or timely intervention. We do so by screening school children. We visit primary schools anyway, since Inclusive Education is a regular procedure. A mobile team of Elim goes out and screens the children concerning hearing- and visual problems. When necessary children are referred to specialists. A few times a year an eye specialist comes to Elim for eye testing and delivering visual aids.

Instruction
All teachers and pupils are given a lesson with medical instructions. During the school holidays we give instruction to medical personnel, parents and others concerned.
